Not All Scrapbooks are Amazing!

Yup!  like the title says “not all scrapbooks are amazing”.  When people think about scrapbooking (if they haven’t done it) they think each and every layout has to be incredible, all the pictures need to look like a professional took them and there can’t be an inch of white or misused space left.  This is sooo not true!

I have been scraping for over 6 years and I have pages that I’ve completed this past week that are “just okay”  and I have some that I did within my first few months that to this day are still my favorites.   Over time you have certain pictures you will love and those pages could be plain and even have a spelling mistake but it doesn’t matter, you love them.  Other pages will be perfect, everything just fell into place, colours matching, embellishes sparkling and there’s just something about it that you feel it’s missing, even though you couldn’t fit another speck or sparkle anywhere.  It just happens!  Your mood or personal taste change day-to-day and that sometimes affects your overall judgement of layouts.

So when a newbie says they can’t scrapbook because they aren’t artistic I like to call their bluff.  It’s not the years of experience or fancy expensive stuff that make the scrapbook.  It’s the pictures they love and the pride of completing a project that makes the scrapbook a treasure.  So what if the pictures are slightly crooked, the mats are uneven and there’s a spelling error.  Those are little bumps on the journey.

So to make a scrapbook you can be proud of and want to show off all you need is pictures you love that tell a story, some paper and a pen and an acid free adhesive.  Sit down and put it together anyway that makes you happy, there is no right or wrong, no amazing or frumpy.  This is your book and your story to tell!

HAPPY JUNE 1st! ABC scrapbook

Can’t believe it’s already June 1st.  This past year has flown by so fast my head is still whirling.  I have accomplished a lot though, I helped my oldest son through his first year of kindergarten, I wrote a short story about zombies and had it published on google play books, I’ve started the process to get my driver’s license (finally) and started this fun little side project, I love scrapbooking and now I get to do it for other people or help them complete their own projects.  On that note, I’d like to share a project I have completed.   I made an album for my boys late last year about the alphabet.   I did a one page layout for each letter and had a ball choosing the pictures.  A is for “apple picking”,  B is for “bath time“, C is for “Cleese” (my middle son) etc.   After discussing it with a friend of mine I think I’ll make an event based on it, this is still in the works but I have an idea how to lay it out.

A=apple, airplane,…  B=bathtime, birthday,…C=car, chocolate, cake,…D=dog, dance,…E=Elmo, eat,…F=friends, favorite… and so on!   so many options for each letter makes each scrapbook custom for each person.  I plan to make an 8×8 one as an example but i also have my personal one for display.

If this is a scrapbook you would be interested in please email me and we can discuss.

What a great time!

Just wanted to post an update on the Family Fun night from last night at Northrop Frye School.  We (my boys, my parents and myself) had a great time. I didn’t get to experience the activities because my bookmark table was busy all evening!  So nice to see so many kids wanting to be crafty.  I can’t wait to do it again next year!  🙂  I can’t wait to see the silly picture of Dexter from the photo booth!

Northrop Frye School’s Family Fun night has arrived!

I’m so happy the weather is going to be great for this evening!  Northop Frye’s 2nd annual Family Fun night event is happening today from 5pm til 7pm.   I know the kiddos will have a blast tonight!  The bouncy castles, face painting, zumba and hands on activities is going to be great and I’ll be there making bookmarks with the kids and the Moncton Public library will be doing a craft with them as well.   I can’t wait to meet people from our community and hopefully make a few contacts for future events 🙂   In 7 hrs from now the Family fun night will be underway and I can’t wait to have fun just like all the kids who’ll be there.  YAY!

p.s. come by and say “hello!”

Dull Scissors and Punches? Fix it!

This has probably been said a million times but here it goes again,  “DULL SCISSORS SUCK!”  There I said it and I feel better? No, my scissors are still dull!  If you are like me, you have those 1 pair of scissors that just fit in your hand, they feel right, they move with you, they cut everything so perfectly they’re almost just an extension of your arm.  When they are dull it’s like trying to tie shoes with mittens on, pointless!   But I have a solution.   This is really simple and it works for punches as well.  All you need to do is cut some tin foil, seriously!  I always heard this “myth” but never tried it.  Then last March when I was designing birthday invites for my 2 older sons, I decided to use tin foil through my sizzix with a polka dot embosser (looked so cool!) and after cutting the 4″x6″ pieces of foil I discovered how sharp my favorite scissors had become.  It was like true love all over again, well maybe that’s a bit too dramatic. But I had forgotten how well those scissors cut through anything….no more snipping through paper just hold them open at that right angle and zoom!

For Punches I would also recommend cutting wax paper, it helps lubricate the moving parts so it takes less muscle to punch through even the toughest of papers.

So if your favorite scissors aren’t cutting it anymore then dig out the tin foil and snip away.

Your punches and scissors will be like new again!

Family Fun night at Northrop Frye School

I can’t wait for the 2nd annual Family Fun night on May 30th at NFS.  I have a table this year and I will be making a bookmark with the kids. It should be super fun!  I have all the bookmarks precut and punched to place the ribbon through, I have stamps and markers for the kiddos to design their own creations.   I am excited to see their creative bookmarks.

If you live in the Northend of Moncton you should come by the school fiday may 30 from 5pm to 7pm, there’ll be food, bouncy castles and face painting just to name a few things.  Cost is $5 for kids all you can play and food will be extra but all money raised will go back to the school!  how awesome is that!?!

hope to see you there!

Explosion Box scrapbook idea

I made a new project last night.  I have made them before but not many, this was my third and just as easy as I remember.  I made it for the silent auction at Northrop Frye School for their Family fun night on May 30th.   I thought it’d be a nice way to show different ways to make a scrapbook other than the traditional style.  So people can see the variety of projects we can make together.   I have not taken pictures yet but I will and post them.  In the meantime, if this is something that interests you send me an email and I will forward the instructions or arrange a time when you can come and make one with me.  They are super cute!

What are you doing for Mother’s day?

Mother’s day is tomorrow and I know I’m looking forward to being spoiled by my 3 boys and hubby.  I have my Mother’s day cards made for my mother and mother in law but really what’s lingering in my mind is our first camping trip as a family, that’s coming up.  We’ll be in Fundy and it should be a good time but I still haven’t come up with a way to travel during the summer and keep up with my scrapbooking, I have too many tools and products to tote them along.  We’d need another trailer just for it!  I do more photo taking which really puts me almost more behind.

Oh well, at least I have lots of pictures to keep me warm throughout the winter and ones to put a smile on my face on those rainy drab days.

I really just wanted to say  “happy Mother’s day to everyone” in scrapbook land.  I hope you mae a beautiful scrapbook for your mother for tomorrow and if you didn’t you should have come to see me!  Haha!

cheers!

Mother’s day is coming up

This Sunday is mother’s day, and I want to help you show your mom (or someone you think of as a mom) how much you care for her.   Come check out my Thursday event and make a special “I love Mom” double layout for only $7 and bring your mom and she can make it for free!  You have to RSVP by Thursday at noon and let me know if your mom will be joining you.

Mother’s day is a special day to celebrate the amazing woman who has helped you become the person you are today.

Last weekend’s yard sale

The yard sale at the Golden age club in St. Philippe went really well.  I had a great time and met a lot of new people.  But most importantly they decided to do a craft sale in mid october.  I’m not sure of the date but I will be there!  I have so many ideas for items to make to sell and hopefully I might even get a few people interested in classes or make special orders.

I’ll pass along the date as soon as I know.  Can’t wait!
